Speed Bags?

What is a Speed Bag?

A Speed Bag (also known as a “Speed Ball” in Australia and the UK) is a piece of Gym Equipment, traditionally associated with Boxer Training, but increasingly being used by a wide variety of non-boxers as well – for fitness and fun.

A Speed Bag is a small, tear drop shaped, air-filled,
punching bag, hanging from a sturdy rebound platform
(usually) parallel to the ground.

Speed bags help a fighter learn to keep their hands up, improve hand-eye coordination, and learn to shift weight between feet when punching. They generally have an rubber, air filled bladder within a tight a tight Polyurethane based or leather material.

Speed Bags come in various sizes. Generally the larger the bag, the slower it is and the more force is required to keep it going. Larger bags are used more for building endurance and strength, while smaller bags focus on faster hand speed, timing and coordination.

A boxer normally hits the speed bag from the front with their fists, but some styles of Speed Bagging make use fists and elbows to hit the bag from all around –  including the front, back and sides.
